The Queen has been pleased to appoint Major-General Martin Spencer White CB CBE DL as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the Isle of Wight upon the retirement of Christopher Bland Esq on 8 October 2006.
Biographical Notes
General White (62) was commissioned in 1966 into the Royal Army Service Corps. His career has included regimental command, time at the Staff College as an instructor and command of the logistic support to UK ground forces in the First Gulf War. Following attendance at the Royal College of Defence Studies the General was Director of Support at Headquarters Allied Land Forces Central Europe from 1993 to 1995 and Director General of Logistic Support (Army) from 1995 until his retirement from the Army in 1998.
He was the Honorary Colonel of Southampton Officer Training Corps from 1999 to 2004 and remains a Colonel Commandant of the Royal Logistic Corps and the Honorary Colonel of 165 Port and Maritime Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, Territorial Army.
He has been a Fellow of the Institute of Logistics from 1992 and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport from 1993.
General White has been Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight since 1999.He is married to Fiona and they have three sons and a daughter.
