Save energy, save the planet
This week was Energy Saving Week, and the PM did his bit by revealing that he has turned the Downing Street thermostat down by one degree, and has switched to energy-efficient lightbulbs in Number 10.
But at PMQs Mr Blair said all future measures on climate change must be "entirely compatible with the interests of business and consumers". Meanwhile, he warned serious criminals "you will be tracked down" during a visit to a DNA forensic science lab.
Building civic pride
Climate change, tax credits and social housing were on the agenda at this week’s PMQs. Tony Blair was also asked about youth justice, Burma and post offices. The PM wore a special tie which will be auctioned to support breast cancer research.
On Thursday he headed to the north east to talk about the new White Paper on local government which gives more say in the way their communities are run. He said it was about "building civic pride" and making services more responsive to what families want.
Better buildings for all
The City of London Academy won the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award for 2006 this week. Opened by Tony Blair in September 2005, the academy has proved hugely popular, with 1,370 pupils applying for 180 places last year.
Also this week, attended the launch of a book which commemorates the life of murdered Iraqi Trade Union leader Hadi Saleh, and paid tribute to footballing legend Alan Shearer during a charity event on Tyneside.
