Tony Blair and his Cabinet held a special meeting today to look at the conclusions so far of the policy review.
They spent the morning at Lancaster House considering the findings from some of the review’s working groups - including public services and crime, security and justice.
The PM’s introduction to the meeting focused on the need to take public service reform a stage further.
Research firm Ipsos MORI led the public engagement work, which concluded with Saturday’s "citizen summit" and their presentation on attitudes to public services.
Among their findings were that people have seen improvements in public services but want more, and are also demanding greater flexibility - for example, doctors surgeries which open at weekends.
Mr Blair set out the steps which he thinks are required to ensure that the government builds on the progress which it has made in making Britain a fairer and more prosperous nation.
Out of the review, he said, will come a new concept of modern public services - one built around the user of the service.
