I am delighted to send my congratulations and best wishes to all the staff and readers of the Belfast News Letter on the paper’s 270th anniversary.

Such a record of continuous service to the Belfast community deserves recognition. But to reach a phenomenal 270 years in such good health is real reason for celebration.

You have played a vital role in informing your readers and reflecting their concerns and hopes and in doing so help bring communities together.

I join in Tony Blair’s thanks for your role in the peace process when he visited your offices on Devolution Day.

Congratulations again on reaching this landmark and best wishes for thenext 270 years!
