Gordon Brown has offered his congratulations to the England rugby team following its World Cup semi-final win in Paris.
In a Downing Street statement, the PM hailed England’s "fantastic achievement" in reaching next Saturday’s final after defeating hosts France by 14 points to nine.
He said:
"I want to congratulate Brian Ashton, Phil Vickery and the whole England rugby team on their fantastic achievement. This is a proud day for for the country and I wish the team the best of luck for the final."
After a shock 12-10 victory over Australia last week, England prevailed thanks to a Josh Lewsey try and nine points from the boot of Jonny Wilkinson. The second semi-final, between Argentina and South Africa, will take place tomorrow evening.
