The Prime Minister has reiterated his desire to see the Middle East peace process "move forward" to an an eventual two-state solution.
Speaking at a Downing Street press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Mr Brown said the UK was ready to give "economic help to the Palestinian people" but that "security protection" for Israel was also necessary. Mr Olmert said that Israel was "anxious" to make progress on the Palestinian issue and that forthcoming talks could help "set the direction" towards an future settlement.
The US is due to host an Israeli-Palestinian conference with key players in the Middle East peace process in Maryland later this year.
