The Prime Minister has re-appointed David Norgrove as a Trustee of the British Museum for a period of four years from 23 March 2008.
Biographical Details
David’s career began at the Treasury, where he started as an economist. His time there included two years on secondment to the First National Bank of Chicago, and he was Private Secretary to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher from 1985 to 1988. He joined Marks & Spencer in 1988, holding various senior positions before being appointed to the board in 2000. Whilst at Marks & Spencer, he was chair of the pension fund trustees from 2000 until his retirement in 2004.
In January 2005 he was appointed as the first chair of the Pensions Regulator.

1. The British Museum holds in trust for the nation and the world a collection of art and antiquities from ancient and living cultures. Housed in one of Britain’s architectural landmarks, the collection is one of the finest in existence, spanning two million years of human history. The Board of Trustees of the British Museum has statutory duties under the British Museum Act 1963 and Museums and Galleries Act 1992 for the general management and control of the Museum and for the appointment of the director.
2. The posts are not remunerated. Reasonable expenses can be claimed.
3. This re-appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. David Norgrove has not been involved in any political activity in the past 5 years.
