The Queen has approved the appointment of the Reverend Janet Chapman, Priest-in-Charge of Banbury, in the diocese of Oxford to a Residentiary Canonry of Birmingham Cathedral as Canon Liturgist upon the resignation of the Reverend Canon Gary O’Neill BD.

The Reverend Janet Chapman (born 1958) trained for the ministry at Cranmer Hall, Durham. She was Parish Deacon at St Cuthbert Darlington, Durham diocese from 1987 to 1992. She was then Non Stipendiary Minister at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Murrayfield, Edinburgh from 1993 to 1995 and subsequently Non Stipendiary Minister at Long Marston and Rufforth with Hessay and Moor Monkton and Long Marston, York diocese from 1995 to 1998. From 1997 to 2000 she was School Chaplain to Queen Ethelburga’s College, York and then Harrogate Ladies College. Since 2001 she has been Priest-in-Charge at St Mary’s Church Banbury, Oxford diocese. Mrs Chapman has “a passion for mission through liturgy and pastoral encounter” and is currently Secretary for the Midlands branch of the liturgical development group Praxis.
Mrs Chapman is married to Peter and they have 2 daughters. Her recreations include being a member of a swimming club and gym, walking, sewing/knitting and narrow boating.
