The Prime Minister has agreed to extend Nigel Macdonald’s term as a Trustee of the National Maritime Museum for two years from 11 March 2008.
Biographical Details
Nigel Macdonald is a Director of Coca-Cola HBC and is a member of the Audit Board of the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund. He is also chairman of a retail company and was a senior partner in Ernst and Young for many years, retiring in 2003. He is a past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and was a member of the Cadbury Committee. Until 2005 he was a member of the Competition Commission and from 1992 until 2004 a member of the BSI Board, and Chairman of its Audit Committee.

The National Maritime Museum’s mission is to illustrate the importance of the sea, ships, time and stars, and their relationship with people. Its responsibilities are safeguarding and enhancing its assets which are the collections, expertise in the collections and subject area and the buildings. The Museum seeks to spread the benefits of those assets by maximising access and interpretation for users, satisfying stakeholders and ensuring effective organisation and sound financial management. Trustees of the National Maritime Museum are not remunerated.
Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for political activity in the past 5 years (if any declared) to be made public. Mr Macdonald has declared no political activity.
