The Queen has approved the appointment of the Venerable Michael Wrenford Hooper BA, Archdeacon of Hereford to the Suffragan See of Ludlow in the Diocese of Hereford in succession to the Right Reverend John Charles Saxbee BA, PhD on his translation to the See of Lincoln.

The Venerable Michael Hooper (aged 60) was educated at St David’s College, Lampeter and studied for the ordained ministry at St Stephen’s House, Oxford. He served his first curacy at Bridgnorth St Mary in Hereford Diocese from 1965 to 1970 and since then his entire Ministry has been in that diocese. He was Priest-in-Charge and then Rector of Habberley, from 1970 to 1981. From 1970 to 1981 he was also Vicar of Minsterley, and Rural Dean of Pontesbury from 1975 to 1980. From 1981 to 1985 he was Vicar of Leominster and Priest-in-Charge at Eyton from 1981 to 1985. He became Team Rector of Leominster in 1985. He was Rural Dean of Leominster from 1981 to 1997. He was also Priest-in-Charge at Eye, Croft with Yarpole and Lucton from 1991 to 1997. Since 1997 he has been Archdeacon of Hereford.
Michael Hooper is married to Rosemary and they have four grown up children.
His interests include walking and sport especially rugby and cricket.
The new Bishop of Ludlow will also be Archdeacon of Ludlow, as was his predecessor.
