The Prime Minister has re-appointed Mr Tom Phillips RA as Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery with effect from 27 February 2002 for a further period of four years.

Biographical Notes

Tom Phillips is a painter, writer and composer. He has had his paintings exhibited around the world for more than 30 years. Mr Phillips has published widely including a translation of Dante’s Inferno which he illustrated himself, Africa: The Art of a Continent and The Postcard Century. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1984, and has been a Chairman of the RA Exhibitions Committee since 1995. Mr Phillips has been the Chairman of the Frua Foundation, New York, since 1997, and Trustee of Ruskin House since 1996.

Mr Phillips has not been involved in any political activity in the last five years.
