The Queen has approved the appointment of Dr Donal A J Keegan OBE DL as Lord-Lieutenant for the County Borough of Londonderry upon the retirement of Mr James Eaton CBE on 11th August 2002.

Dr Keegan (63) is a consultant physician at Altnagelvin Area Hospital in Londonderry, a post he has held since 1975. He is active in the medical world both in the UK and in the Republic of Ireland and was awarded the OBE in 1999 for services to Medicine and Rehabilitation services in Northern Ireland.
Dr Keegan holds a number of professional qualifications, including Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and has a lead role in Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education in Northern Ireland. Dr Keegan was Sheriff for the County Borough of Londonderry in 1993 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 1993.
