The Queen has approved the re-appointments of The Earl of Scarbrough and Mrs Althea Dundas-Bekker as Commissioners of the Historical Manuscripts Commission for a further period of two years with effect from 16 June 2002.
Biographical Notes
The Earl of Scarbrough was first appointed to the Commission in 1994. He is a private owner of records and has played an active part in the Commission’s discussions with private owners. He helped to launch the computerised Manorial Documents Register for Yorkshire at the University of York’s Borthwick Institute of Historical Research.
Mrs Althea Dundas-Bekker is Vice Chairwoman of the Midlothian Tourist Association, a member of the National Trust for Scotland and a committee member Scottish Historic House Association. She owns an important library and archive. Mrs Dundas-Bekker has been a Deputy Lieutenant for the Area of Midlothian since 1991.
Notes to the Editor
- The Historical Manuscripts Commission aims to locate and record manuscript, records and archives (apart from public records), to advise on their preservation and storage and to assist those wishing to use them.
- Appointments to the Commission are made by HM The Queen on the recommendation of the Prime Minister following advice from the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
