The Prime Minister has today appointed Dr Simon Singh as a Trustee of the National Museum of Science and Industry for a period of four years.

Biographical Notes

Dr Singh is a freelance writer, science journalist, and broadcaster. Dr Singh has worked for the BBC as a Director/Producer for programmes including Tomorrow’s World and Horizon. He recently presented a five-part series on the history of cryptography for Channel 4 and currently presents for Radio 4. In 1997, he wrote "Fermat’s Last Theorem" - the first book about mathematics to become a No.1 bestseller in the UK; it has since been translated into 25 different languages. His second book is entitled "The Code Book". He is a former columnist for The Independent on Sunday, has reviewed books for papers such as The New York Times and Observer, and has written feature articles for papers including The Daily Mail, The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph. He has also undertaken work for Museums and Science Centres and is currently researching projects aimed at popularising science among the public and schools.

Dr Singh is a member of NESTA but holds no other public appointments and has not been involved in any political activity in the last five years.
