Lord-Lieutenant for the Western Isles

The Queen has appointed Alexander Matheson Esq OBE DL as the Lord-Lieutenant for the Western Isles following Viscount Dunrossil, deceased.

Biographical Notes

Mr Matheson (59) has been a DL since 1993 and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant since 1994. As a qualified pharmacist he is well known in the business community as Chairman of Roderick Smith Ltd, a local family business. He has had a long involvement with local government and is former Vice-Convener and Convener for the Western Isles Council and former Director of Western Isles Enterprise. He is currently Chairman of the Western Isles Health Board and of the Stornoway Pier and Harbour Commission. Mr Matheson is a Justice of the Peace and an Honorary Sheriff of the Western Isles. He is married, with a grown up family of four. His interests include family and local history and European island travel.
