We have noted with concern the difficulties which the football authorities and players’ representatives have had in agreeing a common approach to the future contract and transfer system in European professional football. However, we welcome the recent announcement that FIFA and UEFA are continuing to work together on a sustainable solution. We now call on other parties involved to continue to work together to produce a solution that works for the good of the game as a whole.
As we said in our statement on 9 September last year, we want to see a solution which preserves the benefits of the existing system, and which allows smaller clubs to flourish. We hope that the negotiations with the European Commission which continue in February will achieve a settlement which meets the needs of all.
