Eid al-Adha

I would like to give the British Muslim Community my sincerest best wishes for Eid-al Adha. Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice commemorates the Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmail, at God’s command. It is a timely reminder of the common heritage of many faiths. Islam is a deeply reflective and peaceful religion. It is a faith that proclaims the sanctity of human life, the inviolability of human dignity and the equality of all, irrespective of race or background. We can all benefit from a greater understanding of your beautiful faith. I am proud that the Muslim community is working so closely with this Government. We share many common values - a belief in opportunity and enterprise, reward for hard work and the promotion of tolerance and community. We share a real passion for education and a belief in the importance of family. I welcome the increased participation of the Muslim and other faith communities in public life and look forward to helping build on this in the future.
