The Queen has approved that the Right Honourable Frank Field MP be appointed Chair of the Churches Conservation Trust for a term of three years from 1 July 2001.

Frank Field, born in 1942, has been MP for Birkenhead since 1979. He was Director of the Child Poverty Action Group from 1969 to 1979, also becoming a Member of the Low Pay Unit from 1974 till 1980. He was a Minister of State at the Department for Social Security from 1997 to 1998. He became the Chairman of the Select Committee on Social Services from 1987 to 1990. From 1991 until 1997 he was a member of the Select Committee on Social Security.

Frank Field has written and edited a number of books, notably on welfare issues. He is a practising member of the Church of England with a strong interest in church architecture and history.
