The Queen has approved the appointment of Mr Gavyn Davies OBE as Chairman of the British Broadcasting Corporation. The appointment is for a period of 5 years from 1 October 2001.

Notes for Editors

  1. The appointment of Gavyn Davies will be made in succession to Sir Christopher Bland.
  2. This is a part-time appointment. The post attracts a salary of £77,590 per annum and is pensionable.

Gavyn Davies, 50, has been Vice-Chairman of the BBC since 1 January 2001. He is Chairman of the Global Investment Research Department and Chief International Economist at Goldman Sachs International. He chaired the independent review panel into the Future Funding of the BBC in 1999.
