Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointments of Dr Llinos Smith, David Crossley and John Newman as members of the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales for a term of five years.

Dr Smith is a senior lecturer at the Department of History and Welsh History at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and has been involved in teaching and research on the social, economic and legal history of late medieval Wales. Mr Crossley is the former Reader in Economic History at the University of Sheffield. He is an industrial historian and archaeologist of international standing, particularly with regard to metal and glass manufacture. A pioneer of archaeological excavation on industrial sites since the 1960’s, he has carried out research throughout Europe including Wales. Mr Newman is Reader in the History of Art and formerly Deputy Director at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, where he specialises in post-medieval British architecture. He is advisory editor to the Pevsner Architectural Guides and author of the volumes on Glamorgan (1995) and Gwent (forthcoming).
