The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Mrs Phyllida Stewart-Roberts OBE DL as Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex (includes the unitary authorities of Brighton and Hove) following the retirement of Admiral Sir Linsday Bryson KCB on 22nd January.

Mrs Stewart-Roberts (66) has been the Vice Lord-Lieutenant for East Sussex since 1996. She has taught at a primary school in London and has helped to run a housing association. She is President of the Love Walk Hostel for disabled workers; is a council member for Sussex University (and has been Vice Chair of the Council since last year), is Trustee of Community Service Volunteers and a past national Superintendent in Chief of St John Ambulance. She is currently County Chairman of St John, Sussex, Chairman of the Joint Committee of St John and the Red Cross, and a Trustee of the Orders of St John Trust, a charity providing residential care for the elderly. Mrs Stewart-Roberts is married to Andrew, with one son and one daughter, both grown up.
