National Heritage Memorial Fund

The Prime Minister has appointed Mrs Primrose Wilson OBE as a Trustee of the National Heritage Memorial Fund for a period of three years. Mrs Wilson will also take up the Chairmanship of the Heritage Lottery Fund Committee for Northern Ireland on 22nd October when the current Chairman’s appointment expires.

The National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) is a fund of last resort which provides grants for buying items which are of outstanding interest, important to the national heritage, and which are at risk of being developed, damaged or destroyed. The NHMF is also responsible for the distribution of the heritage share of the proceeds from the National Lottery which it does via the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The HLF gives financial help to projects which produce wider public benefits in terms of education, access and urban regeneration. The NHMF have delegated decisions on the award of grants in Northern Ireland of up to £1 million to the Committee for Northern Ireland, which is chaired by the Northern Ireland Trustee. The post is remunerated at £16,150 per annum.

Biographical Notes

Mrs Wilson is currently a member of the Heritage Lottery Fund Committee for Northern Ireland. She is Chairman of the Historic Buildings Council for Northern Ireland, past Chairman of the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society, a Trustee of Ulster Historic Churches Trust, committee member of Hearth Housing Association, which restores historic houses, and Director of Irish Landmark Trust. She has numerous interests and is active in various Irish heritage bodies. She was awarded the OBE in 1997 for services to conservation. Mrs Wilson has not undertaken any significant political activity in the past 5 years.
