The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Mr Denis Desmond CBE as Lord-Lieutenant for County Londonderry upon the retirement of Sir Michael McCorkell on the 3rd May.
Biographical Notes
Denis Desmond (56) is Chairman and Managing Director of Desmond and Sons Ltd (a private company formed in 1885) and he is also Chairman of Altnagelvin Hospitals HSS Trust. He was awarded the CBE in 1989 for his outstanding contribution to Northern Ireland industry and to the economy at large. Mr Desmond was High Sheriff for the county in 1974 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 1992.
