The Queen has approved that the Reverend Canon William Nigel Stock BA DipTh, Canon Residentiary of Durham Cathedral in the Diocese of Durham, be appointed to the Suffragan See of Stockport in the Diocese of Chester in succession to the Right Reverend Geoffrey Martin Turner on his retirement.

Canon Stock (born 1950) studied theology at Ripon College, Cuddesdon. He served his first curacy at Stockton St Peter in the Diocese of Durham. He spent from 1979 to 1984 in Papua New Guinea as a Parish Priest and University Chaplain. On his return to England in 1985 he was Vicar at Shiremoor in the Diocese of Newcastle for six years. Between 1991-1998 he was the Team Rector of North Shields which included a time as a Chaplain to the Northumbrian Police. He was Rural Dean at Tynemouth from 1992 until 1998 and was made Honorary Canon of Newcastle Cathedral in 1997 until 1998 when he become Canon Residentiary of Durham Cathedral. Canon Stock is married to Carolyne a Junior School Teacher and they have three children the youngest of whom is still at school. His recreations include sport, photography and travel.
