The Queen has approved the re-appointment of Dr Susan Davies as a Commissioner of the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts. She has been re-appointed for a three year term with effect from today.
Biographical Notes
Dr Susan Davies (58) was first appointed to the Commission in 1995. She is a lecturer in Palaeography and Director of post-graduate training in Archives and Records Management at University of Wales, Aberystwyth. She has acted as adviser to the Secretary of State for Wales on local authority archival matters. In 1995, she wrote a review of how Welsh archive provision could better serve the needs of the National Curriculum and has recently made a major contribution to the Commission’s latest report "Archives at the Millennium". Since 1994 she has served as a Council member for the National Museum of Wales. She has not undertaken any significant political activity over the last five years. Commissioners do not receive remuneration.

The Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts aims to locate and record manuscripts, records and archives (apart from public records), to advise on their preservation and storage and to assist those wishing to use them.
