All aboard for free bus travel

Tony Blair meets passengers of a special bus which arrived at Number 10 to promote free travel for pensioners, 27 November 2006To mark the introduction of the Concessionary Bus Travel Bill, 10 Downing Street became a scheduled bus destination for the day. 

Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander joined the Prime Minister to welcome a group of older and disabled people who arrived outside the famous front door by bus.

Train station. Picture: Britain on ViewThe Channel Tunnel Rail Link is the first major railway to be built in the UK since Victorian times. Its route was kept as close as possible to existing roads and railways to reduce the amount of disruption caused during construction.

Pensioners take the rural bus challenge

Commuters on the movePeople in Lincolnshire have access to a door-to-door bus service in rural areas. Older people who would otherwise find it difficult to get around are among the groups to benefit.

They can arrange to be picked up by making a simple phone call.
