Back to school…safely
A new road safety campaign to remind young children of the dangers of crossing familiar roads is launched today.
The three new adverts are the latest television commercials from the Government’s Think! road safety campaign.
Last year 14,231 children were killed or injured as pedestrians on the road, with a significant number of those accidents happening close to home. The new campaign aims to educate children about this specific danger.
The adverts show different road safety tips including:
- finding a safe place to cross
- waiting for cars to stop before using a pedestrian crossing and
- remembering to be visible on dark winter nights.
Road Safety Minister David Jamieson said:
“As children become more adventurous and play out more, these new ads remind children to always stop, look and listen before crossing any road.”
The Government has set a target for a 50 percent reduction in the number of children killed or seriously injured on the roads by 2010.
