Tony Blair was given a warm welcome on a chilly day as he dropped in on a children’s centre in Leeds.
Pre-school youngsters at the Chapletown ‘Sure Start’ Family Centre braved freezing conditions to greet the PM during his visit to Yorkshire.
Sure Start was launched by the government to help very young children, offering support for mums and dads as well as communities by providing improved childcare and better emotional development for kids.
In Chapletown, this means day care, help with learning English, teatime clubs and after-school sessions for working parents.
Mr Blair was shown the Early Years library and the play areas by centre manager Dawn Lewis, as he chatted with children and volunteers.
He said he was impressed with what he had seen, adding that Sure Start was invaluable not just for young kids, but also for their parents.
Mr Blair left for the city’s Little London community primary school where he met a discussion group of about 50 young Muslims aged between 16 and 25.
