Tony Blair has offered his congratulations to the winners at a new awards ceremony for higher education providers.
The Times Higher Awards, which took place at the Dorchester Hotel, London, recognise the contribution made by the UK’s universities and colleges to intellectual, social and economic life.
Awards handed out included best employer, young researcher of the year and best student experience.
In a video message recorded specially for the event, the PM offered his personal support for the awards.
He said they were a chance to celebrate a sector where ‘thanks to your efforts, Britain is truly a world-leader.’
"Our society and country would be poorer in every way without the contributions of the higher education sector."
