Tony Blair has met with Muslim women in Downing Street at an event aimed at boosting understanding of the community.
The Prime Minister said the event with 40 women was very valuable.
"We wanted to try to have a different type of interface with the community," he said.
"When we met the Muslim community in the past it was very clearly identifiable and well-known men.
"I became dissatisfied and worried that really we were not engaging in a way that got through to what was actually happening or through to different people."
