The Prime Minister has backed plans for a low cost pensions scheme aimed at encouraging millions of workers to save for their retirement.

Under the plan, employees will be auto-enrolled into the scheme, but will be able to opt out.

Why are there different pensions White Papers?

The new White Paper gives plans for the automatic enrolment of workers into a new pensions system, originally mentioned in the May 2006 White Paper that looked at the question of future pensions. This original paper has been published as a Parlimentary Bill.
