The international community should be determined to help the Iraqi people defeat terrorism and violence, Tony Blair said in Washington last night.
Following talks with President Bush, the PM reflected on his visit to Iraq earlier this week, saying he felt a duty to support the new Government.
"I came away thinking that the challenge is still immense, but I also came away more certain than ever that we should rise to it.
"I am more than ever convinced that what is important for them in Iraq is to know that we will stand firm with them in defeating these forces of reaction."
The two leaders spoke about a wide range of international issues including Africa and the Middle East.
The PM will deliver a speech in the United States later today. We will be broadcasting it live from 1600 BST.
