Tree time at Downing Street

10 December 2004

The British Christmas Tree Growers Association has presented a Christmas tree and wreath to 10 Downing Street.

The Association has been donating a tree to Number 10 for 27 years. The tree lights are to be switched on by the Prime Minister's wife, Mrs Blair, on 15 December.

This year 30 different growers from across the UK took part. Netherraw Forestry won the competition overall and picked up the award for Best Fir.

Christmas trees are environmentally beneficial - just one acre of Christmas trees produces enough oxygen to support eighteen people.
